A record of the South Puget Sound Classic

After a warm Northwest summer, Olympia's on the water festival is a  welcome relief.

The 30th annual Harbor Days got underway as usual on the last Friday of August -- Labor Day weekend in the (US and Canada). By late afternoon, the tugs had begun to arrive.

When a tug's stern is not working, it is the perfect place  to get together, renew friendships and spin a few yarns.

At the other end of the dock, Harbor Nights gets underway.   The outdoor setting is ideal --

for a blues concert featuring slide guitarist Roy Rogers and harmonica wizard Norton Buffalo.

While backstage, the steamer VIRGINIA V (b.1922) stands by.

He ain't kidding!

The "Talk's Cheap" t-shirt was a creation of Tiny Freeman, who made it for the first Harbor Day's victory of The Mighty Tug SPAR in 1992. The man wearing it in this photo said he only wears it once a year -- on race day!
