genus Hapolemur
|
The Black lemur is one of 15 species of primitive primates found only on Madagascar and on the nearby Comoro Islands. Some lemurs are nocturnal, while some are active at dusk, and a few are diurnal -- active during the day. Lemurs spend their lives in trees, with the exception of the ring-tailed lemur that spends part of its time on the ground. Because of habitat loss, a number of species of lemur are now endangered. This photograph has generated a lot of sympathetic response. It is not too hard to see a little bit of ourselves in this captive creature's face. |
