Western Screech Owl

Otus kennicottii

Wildlife biologists will tell you that one of the biggest no-no's in their business, is to anthropomorphize the subject's behavior. In recent years though, a whole new school of thought has emerged, that basically says,  natural behaviors of both us humans and them critters have evolved alongside of each other -- that there may not be a whole lot of differences between us -- that maybe some anthropomorphism is OK.

Whatever. To me, figuring out what they are thinking is often just plain fun. Take this guy for example.

You -- and yes, you biologists too, will probably come up with your own meaning as to what this little owl's expression is all about. In any event, no one is harmed by it -- least of all the owl, who could care less.

 Enjoy.
