From 1984-87, I served as a founding member of the Board of Directors at Wolf Haven (now known as Wolf Haven International), a nonprofit wildlife sanctuary located near Tenino, Washington. As a photojournalist and naturalist, I studied the sanctuary's wolves up close, documenting their behavior -- albeit captive. Over time, many of the wolves came to know me, and in a few cases, relationships of mutual trust developed.
In exchange for the virtually unlimited access I had to the wolves, I allowed Wolf Haven the use of my work in their promotional and educational materials. I am thankful for the help the staff afforded me, and hope that in some small way, my photos were able to add to our knowledge of these fascinating and complex creatures.
The photographs presented here are samples from my study, The Wolves At Your Door, a 36+ print exhibit last shown at Seattle's Pacific Science Center in 1988. The photos were chosen from thousands of individual pictures I made at Wolf Haven from 1984-87.
